The Brady sibling’s harmless hit was the theme song of vampires everywhere Sunday night. Times may not be good for Sookie and Co., but the bon temps are definitely rolling for us True Blooders. After a somewhat lackluster third season, the show is acting like it has something to prove and is firing on all cylinders.
Sunday’s episode found plots progressing full speed ahead on all fronts. Seriously, did this not have an “last episode before the season finale” vibe? I was on a natural high, and it wasn’t just the chocolate cobbler and ice cream I had just inhaled.
Priorities first. Let’s all take a moment of silence for Katy the Guard. Poor girl didn’t even get to finish her Angry Bird Zombies game before being used and discarded by Marnie – excuse me Antonia Gavilan del Logrono – and her new toy, Luis.
While Marnie/Antonia (Martonia?) mounted hit the road, Luis showed up in Bill’s office to deliver a message from Martonia. Bill returned the favor with some choice wooden bullets – hey, don’t hate the messenger! Luis managed to tell Bill to prepare for “the resurrection” before forcing Bill’s stake into his heart. Bye bye, Sheriff Luis.
Back in the Forbidden Swamp, Alcide and Debbie – on a break from the Shreveport Werewolf Association initiation ceremony – came upon Eric and Sookie – right where we left them last week –on the forest floor. Dirty. Literally. Satisfied that she was safe at the moment, Alcide and Debbie headed on.
Eric and Sookie eventually got back to her place, where they continued their exploration of the glories of nature – indoors.
Meanwhile at Merlotte’s, Pam was trying to kill two birds with one stone and doing a really poor job of it before local aspiring paparazzi burst on the scene and sent her running. This left Tara even more traumatized. This girl has been through more than her fair share in Bon Temps, but I think she’s finally reached a breaking point. After sending her girlfriend home to New Orleans, she joined forces with Martonia to end the vampire nonsense once and for all.
Martonia – along with a very motley crue of assistants – put her necromantic’s plan into action – calling all the vampires in Louisiana out into the sun to fry on the spot.
Funniest Scene of the Night: Maxine’s neighbor walking out in bathrobe and curlers like she was going for her morning paper before getting burned to a crisp, to which Maxine simply commented: “I knew it!”
Fortunately, Bill had wits enough to have every vampire who wasn’t evacuating silver themselves to keep from going out in the sun. He even brought silver to Sookie’s house for Eric. Redemption points for Bill.
Sookie silvered Eric and stayed with him in his cubby til the storm passed while Bill and Jessica battened down the hatches in the cells underneath Bill’s mansion. Maybe I’ve been watching this show for too long or maybe I’m just plain bat crazy, but the sequence with the vampires awaiting their fate under great pain and having heart-to-hearts was really moving. Or maybe it was just the somber violins.
But I guess silver can only do so much. Jessica broke free and stumbled upstairs for some fresh air. Girl was ready to soak up the sun. And Pam – after having some truly scary looking spa treatments at Fangtasia – was having a hissy fit in Barbie’s Dream Coffin. I don’t know how long she can be held in there. So where did that leave us? Jessica is about to get the sunburn of her life as Jason races to rescue her, while Bill and Eric are struggling to break free of their chains. And poor Sam and Tommy just can’t catch a break to save their lives.
The jury is still out on how Terry and Arlene’s “Mother of Chucky” storyline and The Misadventures of Lafayette and Jesus factor into the bigger picture, but still, quite the cliffanger, no?
