WTF with Marc Maron podcast.
A friend of mine mentioned this podcast to me a few weeks ago and while it’s taken me a while to really listen to it, I’m absolutely in love with it now. Marc Maron interviews comedians of all kinds in his garage and gets them to somehow tell extremely personal stories about their lives and how they got to where they are today. I don’t know if Barbara Walters herself could get this kind of information out of these people. It’s fascinating. I’ve listened to several over the past couple of days including episodes with Aubrey Plaza (probably my favorite so far), Amy Poehler, Jimmy Fallon and the 200th episode where comedian Mike Birbiglia interviews Marc Maron. These guys aren’t afraid to tell it how it is, so if you don’t like to hear the f-bomb dropped in every other sentence (it does start to grate on my nerves every now and then), well just get over it and still give this podcast a listen. It’s worth it.
Jesus and The Bachelorette by Knox McCoy
50 years from now when you guys are enjoying a lazy afternoon with your grandchildren, telling them stories about your youth, don’t forget to include this day. August 12, 2011 when you were told about the book entitled Jesus and The Bachelorette: Finding Christ among Roses, Tanned Bodies and Hyperbole. No, it is a real book and it’s hilarious and thought-provoking and just wonderful. I can’t say enough good things about it. So go buy it and thank me later.
The Fall Movie Preview issue from Entertainment Weekly
I love Entertainment Weekly. I base what movies/tv I watch, books I read and most music I listen to on their opinions. I keep stacks of the magazines near by for no good reason. I rely heavily on Entertainment Weekly and the Fall Preview issue is always a favorite. With descriptions and release dates of the most hyped about movies (and even the ones you’ll never see), you would really be increasing your quality of life by picking up this issue.
Whale Wars on Animal Planet
Tonight is the season 4 finale and it looks to be a good one. If you’ve never seen the show, here’s a brief synopsis taken verbatim from the opening of the show:
There’s a battle going on in the Southern Ocean. Antarctica. Sea Shepherd, an environmental organization led by Paul Watson, are doing everything in their power to stop Japanese sailors from killing whales. The Sea Shepherds say the Japanese are violating an international ban on commercial whaling. The Japanese say they’re legally killing whales for scientific research. Both claim to have the law on their side. These are their battles. This is their war.
Even though tonight is the finale, it’s easy to catch up. They replay episodes constantly and most seasons are available on demand.
Friday got you down? Well, it shouldn’t because it’s Friday. But if you’re still in need of something to make you laugh, and I mean really laugh, then just watch this. There really are no words to describe the horrendousness of this poor kid and what’s coming out of his mouth, and what he’s wearing, and those facial expressions. Regardless, it’s amazing and once you get over the initial shock, you’ll be watching again and again. On breaks at work or just for kicks because you’re bored. And sometimes you’ll be driving late at night and your memory will wander over to this video and you’ll start to laugh uncontrollably in the car.. by yourself. But you know what? You’ll be having a good time.
