Mid-day Monday pick-me-up

We here at CulturePoppe love us some Friday Night Lights and anything – ANYTHING – having to do with it. Yes, we’re a little sad it’s over (and by “a little” we mean “a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot”), but reports that there could possibly be a movie that follows Coach and Tami post series finale are giving us hope. But what’s that? You need more Taylor Kitsch in your life? Well, look at this!

Tay-Tay (as I like to call every celebrity named Taylor, i.e. Swift, Lautner, Hicks..) is starring as John Carter in the aptly named John Carter coming out in 2012. The plot seems a little strange – JC is a confederate captain who gets shipped to Mars after the Civil War then finds he has superhuman strength.. huh? –  but, Taylor Kitsch could be in a movie about watching grass grow and it would absolutely be worth seeing.

Have a look at the trailor below and see if the plot makes any sense to you!

  1. I can help with the plot. It’s based on one of my favorite book series when I was a kid: “A Princess of Mars,” written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. A former Civil War soldier named, yes, John Carter, is out in Arizona when he just mysteriously gets transported to Mars. (In later books, he learns to control this transporting ability.) He’s basically like superman there. The gravity is lower so he can jump around like crazy. The air is thinner so he’s super-strong… it’s crazy Conan-the-Barbarian fantasy stuff with aliens.

A big difference is (and this will make the Riggins-lovers out there sad) in the books everyone is naked the entire time. Apparently Martians (“Barsoomians”) don’t wear clothes, and John Carter goes native! They seem to have him clothed in the movie. Oh well.
