There is nothing like some Coldplay to soundtrack a date between myself and a bottle of wine. When you need to just bask in some vino-fueled catharsis and purge the grit of the day, Chris Martin is your man.
But when you want to soar above the clouds…well, Chris Martin is your man. I love all of Coldplay’s sides – both quiet and ebullient – and “Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love” from 2008’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends blissfully gives me both. The “Lovers in Japan” movement gives me that driving joy that the most buoyant Coldplay songs can – the kind that can make you feel like you can fly straight through the clouds. And the “Reign of Love” portion brings me back down on a liltingly gorgeous bed of piano and vocal. Check out this video of “Lovers in Japan” filmed live in –where else? – Tokyo.
